πΊπ¬ UPDF to rehabilitate over 1000 schools in Ankole
πThe Uganda Peopleβs Defence Force (UPDF) has revealed plans to rehabilitate over 1000 schools in Ankole sub-region as they celebrate the 42nd Tarehe Sita anniversary. Tarehe Sita is the day UPDF marks the attack on Kabamba barracks in 1981 which launched the five-year struggle that brought the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Government to power. The day is celebrated every 6th of February. Army spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye says several activities have been lined up ahead of the celebrations due next week with an ongoing heath camp ongoingΒ in the Ankole region.
πΊπ¬EACOP acquires 47 acres for construction of main camp, pipe yard in KakumiroΒ
πThe construction of the oil pipeline from Uganda to Tanzania has reached yet another milestone with the acquisition of 47.22 acres (19.11 hectares) that will house the East African Crude Oil Pipeline EACOP main camp and pipe yard in Kakumiro District. EACOP LTDΒ on behalf of Government completed the acquisition of the first of the four similar areas required for construction support for the development of the project in Uganda. The land will be transferred to the Ugandan Land Commission and leased to EACOP as per the Host Government Agreement. Speaking on Thursday, EACOP Managing Director, Martin Tiffen said prior to the acquisition, agreements were signed with 32 project affected persons after being fully compensated.

πThe Ministry of Health has directed all medical doctors to give out timely dosage of the viral Hepatitis B to new born children.Β In a letter addressed to all medical doctors, the director general health services Dr. Olara Charles revealed that as part of the 2022-2026 strategy to eliminate the viral hepatitis B, the Ministry has introduced the routine Hepatitis B birth dose which will be given to all babies within 24 hours after birth regardless of the mothers Hepatitis B status.
πΊπ¬ Kanungu FM Manager arrested for assaulting staff memberΒ
πThe manager of Kanungu FM Nelson Kagote Twinamatsiko has been arrested for assaulting his staff. Twinamatsiko was filmed assaulting a female presenter, one Anita Tumuramye. He was picked up on Wednesday after a case of assault was filed by Tumuramye at Kanungu Central Police Station. According to Tumuramye, she secured a school advert worth Shillings 200,000 that was paid in cash, and was entitled to a commission of Shillings 40,000, in line with the station guidelines. She however said that after recording the business, Twinamatsiko declined to release her commission. Tumuramye explained that when she tried to inquire from Twinamatsiko about her commission he slapped her on the face and she started bleeding from the nose.

πMakerere University School of Public Health has launched a study research on impact of COVID 19 in areas of industrial Area zone, Kagugube Parish in Kampala District. The research will study the impact of COVID-19 on employment, economic status and HIV risk and vulnerability among women living in urban informal settlements in two major cities of Kampala and Mbale in Uganda, using a participatory action research. According to the study design, researchers will conduct the study particularly in Kagugube in Kawempe Division and Kitintale, in Nakawa division in Kampala as well as Namakwekwe, in Northern Division and Namatala in Industrial Division in Mbale City. Dr. Simon Kasasa, a senior lecturer at Makerere University School of Public Health is the lead researcher.

πThe security team in Arua City led by Dr. Alice Akello, the RCC have arrested a top suspected human trafficker and rescued over 40 children from his possession. Sabiri Siraji, 27, An Alur from Zombo District and a resident of Kawanda in Wakiso District was picked up from Arua Hotel in Arua City on Wednesday as he was preparing to transport the children to Kampala. However, the children aged between 5 and 16 years were rescued from Continental Hotel in Arua City where the suspect had been keeping them for almost a week.The starved children were recruited from different parents across West Nile allegedly to be enrolled to Al-Rahman Islamic primary and secondary school in Bombo, Luwero District.

πThe Innovation Village Organization, a startup ecosystem builder has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE) to support the digitizalization efforts of farmers under the Digital Doors Program. According to Saul Weikama, the Lead Digital Economy Practice at Innovation Village, the MOU will see themΒ digitize over 2.5 million farmers countrywide as part of their efforts to transform communities using information technology.
βThe development of the digital economy is a critical stepping stone to job creation in the new future of work which requires access to the right skills and education for dignified jobs, connection to employers and marketplaces among the youths and women,β said Weikama.

πNigerian Troops have killed at least 37 Boko Haram terrorists. Among the terrorists who were killed include a top Boko Haram commander, Abu Illiya and 13 arrested alongside with their logistic suppliers from the Islamic State West Africa Province (Iswap). The terrorists were killed during a raid on their camps in Kayamari, Habasha and Yuwe villages in Konduga Local Government area of North East Borno State. This comes as troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) pile pressure on the insurgents in Nigeriaβs Lake Chad Basin region.
π NIGERIA: Thousands file pollution cases against Shell
πMore than 13,000 people from two communities in Nigeria have filed individual claims against the oil company Shell at the High Court in London. Residents from the Ogale and Bille communities in the Niger Delta want Shell to clean up oil spills and compensate them for the damage to their land. According to the spokesperson ofΒ Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), the majority of spills referred to in the Ogale and Bille claims were caused by third-party interference, including pipeline sabotage and other forms of oil theft.
π Morocco to mend ties with Spain
πSpainβs Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez arrived in Morocco on Wednesday and together with is Moroccan counterpart Aziz Akhannouch,Β presided over an economic forum in Rabat. The Spaniardβs trip to the north African Kingdom is aimed at further mending ties after a deep diplomatic crisis between the two countries was resolved last year.
βOur common goal is to launch a new stage that will allow us to take advantage of the full potential offered by the relationship between our two countries, a renewed basis of trust and in according with agreements, mutual respect and understanding. We will sign 24 agreements,β Pedro Sacnhez said.

π Chad to open embassy in Israel after resuming ties
πChad will on Thursday open its embassy in Israel after the two countries renewed diplomatic ties in 2019. President Mahamat Deby is on a visit to Israel and met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday in Jerusalem. Chad, which has a majority Muslim population, cut ties with Israel in 1972. Mr Netanyahuβs office said the two leaders will officiate the opening of the embassy.
