Ex-Mbarara Archbishop Bakyenga announced dead

The former Mbarara Archbishop, Paul Kaamuza Bakyenga, has passed on this morning, July 18, 2023, at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala.

Rev. Fr. Charles Mutabaruka, the Mbarara Archdiocese’s director of communications, declared the demise of the Archbishop Emeritus. Bakyenga served as the Archbishop of Mbarara from January 2, 1999, to April 25, 2020, after retiring.

Rev. Fr. Mutabaruka revealed that the former Mbarara Archbishop passed away at age 79 at Nsambya Hospital during his routine medical reviews. Fr. Mutabaruka noted that more information about his burial will come in the subsequent communication.
