European Union Pledges to Support Uganda’s Fight Against Terrorism

While speaking at the training for Muslims and Leaders to counter and prevent violent extremism and terrorism in Uganda held on March, 6th, 2024 at Golf course hotel in Kampala, the European Union Head of governance and social inclusion Mr. Nicolas Gonze confirmed that the European Union in partnership with United nations office on drugs and crime (UNODC) will continue to support trainings which foster peace building and fight against terrorism in Uganda.

“Over the past years we have hard this project implemented in prisons and we continue to spread these trainings to leaders country wide,“ Gonze said.

Gonze further explained that the objective of the trainings is to strengthen efforts to prevent violent extremism and enhance human rights safeguards in Uganda.

“We hope that the project will continue to contribute to countering radicalization and we intend to build capacities of Muslim leaders as ambassadors of change in the fight against violent extremism and terrorism” Gonze added.

The training targeted 100 Muslim clerics from the Office of the supreme mufti, Office of the Uganda Muslim Supreme council, Spidiqa foundation, and the Nakasero Salaf members.

The two day training sponsored by ministry of internal affairs and European union in Uganda is being attended by officers from the Internal Security organization, the Uganda Police force counter terrorism Unit, and other officers from Sister security agencies.
