England Names Thomas Tuchel New Head Coach

The Football Association (FA) of England, in a statement, announced the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as the England national football team’s new head coach.

This development was confirmed on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

Mark Bullingham, FA CEO, made this comment on Tuchel’s appointment, saying that he is the best coach in the world and the preferred candidate for the job.

“We are thrilled to have hired Thomas Tuchel, one of the best coaches in the world, and Anthony Barry, who is one of the best English coaches, to support him. Tuchel was the “preferred candidate” from the “several candidates,” Bullingham said.

Tuchel, who also managed Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), and Mainz, will start his new role on January 1, 2025, on an 18-month deal to the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.

He takes over from Lee Carsley, England’s under-21 manager, who has been in temporary charge since the resignation of Gareth Southgate following England’s defeat by Spain in the 2024 Euro final in July.

This controversial move makes Tuchel England’s third foreign manager ever after Sweden’s Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello of Italy. He will be assisted by his faithful Englishman, Anthony Barry.
