The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) has announced the arrival of the first 100-kilometre pipe line shipment at the port of Dar es Salaam, which will be used in the construction of the cross-border pipeline project.
At a meeting held on December 12, 2023, at the storage yard run by EACOP’s Tanzanian logistics partner, SuperDoll, EACOP stakeholders stated that the line pipe would transport oil from Lake Albert to the Chongoleani peninsula close to Tanga, Tanzania, where it would be easily accessible to world markets.
“The project represents a major inward investment in Uganda and Tanzania,” the stakeholders said.
They noted that this milestone paves the way for the initiation of the main construction phase of the cross-border pipeline project, which has been receiving backlash from environmental activists and groups worldwide.
“EACOP is focused on ensuring that all activities undertaken adhere to the most stringent social, environmental, and safety standards,” the stakeholders noted.
According to EACOP, the onward transportation of pipes to the point of use will be conducted using new high-spec trucks and trailers.
“The project has invested in training drivers, especially in the areas of defence driving, route planning, and adhering to road regulations. The best technology has been integrated too,” EACOP stated.
EACOP also reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to completing the project successfully while stressing its commitment to ethical practices that promote sustainable development and economic prosperity in the East African area.
