The joint forces of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) have rescued a total of 38 abductees and several weapons from the Allied Democratic Forces.

Brigadier Felix Kulayigye said the UPDF Spokesperson, the abductees, and weapons were recovered during a fierce clash with the ADF group that left several enemy fighters neutralized on Monday, September 23, 2024.

Brig. Kulayigye said the joint forces largely demoralized an enemy group and forced them to surrender eight SMGs, one PK machine gun, and 38 abductees during an intelligence-led operation against an enemy group east of River Ibiena in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“The operation resulted in significant casualties and demoralization for the enemy, who were also forced to surrender eight (08) SMGs and one (01) PK machine gun,” Kulayigye said.

He says the rescued abductees included women and infants born into captivity.
Kulayigye expressed gratitude to the generals, officers, and men who participated in Operation Shujja and wished the combined forces many more successes.

“As we pursue the ADF terrorists, we congratulate our generals, officers, and men who participated in Operation Shujja and wish the combined forces many more successes in the Defence of our territorial integrity,” he added.

In July 2024, 23 abductees were rescued from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) during Operation Shujja; the rescue occurred near the River Malibongo, north of Tokomeka, Eastern DRC.
