Deputy IGG Orders Arrests of Three Suspects over Extortion in Kikuube District

The Deputy Inspector General of Government (IGG), Dr. Patricia Acham Okiria, has issued orders for the immediate arrest of three individuals in Kikuube district over extortion and diversion of project funds.

In the statement released on July 26, 2024, on the Official X handle of the Inspectorate of Government listed, the suspects, as Godfrey Katungi, the Parish Chief of Igwanjura Parish, Lawrence Baguma, the Parish Chief of Bubogo Parish, and Charles Kusemererwa, a Community Facilitator for the DRDIP project, are accused of extortion.

“Katungi and Baguma have been allegedly extorting money from PDM members as a requirement for accessing PDM money,up while Kusemererwa irregularly withdrew UGX19M from the group’s account,“ Okiria stated.

She further said that the trio are detained at the Kabwoya police post, waiting to be taken before the Anti-Corruption Court to face charges related to their alleged actions.

Okiria emphasized the gravity of such actions, stating that they undermine public trust and hinder the delivery of essential services.

The arrests are part of a broader effort by the Inspectorate of Government to combat corruption and abuse of public office. And the move is seen as a significant step in the fight against corruption and a commitment to safeguarding public resources for the benefit of all Ugandans.
