In a significant turn of events, Chapter 4, a local NGO operating in Kampala in collaboration with Jimmy Spire Ssentongo, a lecturer and human rights activist (a homosexuality defender), has changed strategy after the failed March to Parliament protests, which were popularised under the guise of fighting corruption.

A source has revealed that both Spire and Nicholas Opio, the Executive Director of Chapter Four, have embarked on another mission to escalate homosexuality promotion in the country.

Spire recently claimed that suspects who had been arrested during the flopped protest were allegedly sodomised while in custody, a claim meant to divert the attention of Ugandans.

Ssentongo, together with fellow human rights defenders of the gay persons and some NGOs that subscribe to the same school of thought, have had a strategic shift in their approach after their unsuccessful attempt to have protesters siege parliament such that they force it to revoke the homosexuality bill.

According to Eric Walimbwa, a member of the gay community, they had received funding from their sponsors abroad through Chapter 4 under the guidance of Spire with strict instructions to siege parliament and force it to revoke the ACT.

“Having failed to accomplish that task as planned with sponsors on his tail to provide accountability, it prompted Spire and the organisation to re-evaluate its approach to LGBTQ+ rights advocacy,” Walimbwa said.

He further stated that the proposed repeal saw gay persons take up social media platforms to call upon each other to popularise the March to parliament in large numbers so that the government can revoke the famous anti-homosexuality bill 2023.

“These forced the majority of us to come out and join the protests, where we expressed our commitment to protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, after being given some money to carry out protests,” Walimbwa added.

Bosco Musoke, another member of the gay persons, stated that they were mainly encouraged by Spire to make their voices heard, as they would waste no time in defending us and finding lawyers to defend them if they got arrested in the process.
