The National Unity Platform (NUP) head of Mobilization Chairman Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu who is also a big brother to party president Robert Kyagulanyi has been accused by several party leaders of diverting party funds meant for mobilization of people to attend NUP rallies.

Criticism is building over Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, the Mobilization Chairman of the National Unity Platform (NUP), for allegedly diverting funds intended for rallying supporters to attend NUP events. Nyanzi, who is also the elder brother of party president Robert Kyagulanyi, faces accusations from multiple party leaders for the embarrassingly low turnout at recent NUP rallies.

The allegations stem from disappointingly low attendance at the Rukungiri rally held on July 17, 2024, and the subsequent Ntungamo event on July 18, 2024.  Nyanzi has been on the spot after a very low turn-up in the Western Region more especially in Bundibugyo, Rukungiri and Ntungamo where people have shunned NUP rallies.

Makindye division Mayor, Hajji Mulyanyama, highlighted that Nyanzi is assigned over UGX 50 M per district to actively mobilize people for NUP gatherings, but observations indicate this allocation has not been effectively utilized, given the poor turnout.

“My friend Nyanzi has a budget of over 50 Million UGX and from this turn up you can surely see that the money was not put to good use by Nyanzi and his deputy Nabatanzi, Mulyanyama said.

Mulyanyama further accused Nyanzi of diverting the mobilization funds to pay bloggers to abuse him on social media since they both have intentions of contesting for the position of Lord Mayor.

” You all know that I declared to contest for the position of Lord mayor and I hear Nyanzi is also interested in the same position and he has hired bloggers to abuse me on social media and different NUP WhatsApp groups,” Mulyanyama added.

The NUP agenda continues as the team sets its sights on the Isingiro district for another rally on July 19, 2024. The results of the mobilization funds and their impact on turnout remain to be seen as the party presses forward amidst these allegations.
