The Tororo Chief Magistrates Court has remanded Josephine Naluyima, a Marketing Officer at Centenary Bank in Tororo, on charges of theft and conspiracy to commit a felony.
According to a statement released on April 11, 2025, by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Naluyima is accused of conspiring with others to steal funds intended for elderly beneficiaries under the Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) program.
Investigations allege that between September and October 2023, Naluyima, in collusion with David Asangai the Tororo District Community Development Officer who is already facing similar charges and other unidentified individuals, embezzled millions of shillings meant for vulnerable elderly citizens across various sub-counties in Tororo and Busia districts.
Naluyima has been remanded until April 16, 2025, as investigations continue.
The probe follows a directive from President Yoweri Museveni to Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke, Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, to investigate the criminal elements of the case.
Other institutions, including the Ministry of Lands, the Inspector General of Police, and the Director of Public Prosecutions, are working in coordination to ensure the law is upheld.
