The Weekly Observer cartoonist and University lecturer Jimmy Spire Ssentongo has finally secured a USA visa using a web of lies that government is allegedly trying kill him.
Ssentongo of Spire Cartoons in the Weekly Observer newspaper has been a lecturer at Uganda Martyrs University and part-time lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at Makerere University.
Yours truly, understands that Ssentongo flew out of the country last week and is currently in the US where he is seeking for greener pastures but claims he is running away from harassment from government because of his art pieces that are critical to government.
The young self-trained artist had attempted to provoke government to arrest him for so many years so that he could capitalize on it and seek for both public and international attention but this has been in vain. He has never been arrested by any security organ because of his cartoons published in the Observer newspaper or through his social media pages.
He was also once quoted through his social media pages saying that he has never been arrested or summoned to appear before any police station because of his art work which sometimes are so demeaning and degrading targeting government officials.
The only time Ssentongo was held was in March 2020 when he was put into quarantine when he arrived into the country from the United Kingdom at the peak of the Corona Virus pandemic.
His quarantine was extended after members of his group that were quarantined at Arch apartments in Ntinda tested positive to coronavirus. He was later discharged. Ssentongo attempted to publicize his quarantine using both local and international media but it all withered like wind.
More efforts to attract public sympathy through jumping on everything against government have been futile until he finally secured a US visa.
Spire Ssentongo who has been enjoying the media freedom in Uganda put place by the NRM government was last year voted as the most outstanding Cartoonist during the recently concluded Janzi awards what were sponsored by the same government he claims wants to kill him.
