Emyooga savings and credit cooperative societies (SACCOS) in Bunyoro sub-region have been challenged to prepare themselves for the opportunities in the oil and gas industry that are set to be lucrative in the Albertine Graben, where most of the exploration and production activities will be based.
The call was made by Badru Mugabi, the Hioma Resident City Commissioner, while welcoming Emyooga SACCOS leaders from West Nile, who were on a visit to benchmark the best practises of Emyooga groups in Bunyoro recently.
Then Exchange visits were introduced by the Microfinance Support Centre to move the different SACCOS leaders from one region to another to see and appreciate some of the enterprises taking place in the mainstream and Emyooga SACCOS.
Mugabi said by engaging and training the Emyooga beneficiaries in financial literacy and business incubation, the SACCOS have been able to achieve sustainability and absorption of the funds, making them ready for takeoff.
