Legislators from Buganda have called for unity ahead of the celebration of Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s 31st coronation as the King of Buganda.
While addressing the media at Parliament on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, the legislators, led by their Chairperson of the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus, Muwanga Kivumbi, urged everyone to set aside differences and celebrate the achievements of the Kingdom under Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi over the past 31 years.
Muwanga, who also represents Butambala County, said they will use the event to reflect on the Kingdom’s journey, including historical challenges such as the Lubiri serving as the headquarters for the Ministry of Defence following the outlawing of cultural institutions in Uganda.
“We should unite as Buganda, set aside our differences, and celebrate the achievements of the kingdom under our Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s past 31 years of leadership,” Kivumbi said.
Kivumbi expressed gratitude to Buganda Prime Minister Charles Mayiga for his efforts in unifying the kingdom during the Kabaka’s absence.
“We take this opportunity to also thank in a special way all the leadership of the Buganda community, led by Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga, for having been able to unite the people of Buganda to lead the way in the absence of the kabaka,” Kivumbi said.
He emphasized the importance of loyalty and collective purpose to the Kingdom.
“We pledge and pray that we shall always be loyal to Namulondo, and we shall in all ways possible endeavor unity of purpose for the people of Buganda,” said Kivumbi.
