The former Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) Executive Director, Mr. David Livingstone Ebiru, has been detained this afternoon on charges of bribery by the Office of the Inspector General of Government (IGG).

While testifying before COSASE, David Livingstone Ebiru claimed to have bribed members of the National Standards Council (NSC) with Shs 100 million in order to ensure his tenure in office.

The Deputy IGG, Ms. Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, ordered his detention as a result of allegations of corruption, which he declined to address when the IGG called.

David Ebiru, however, stated that the words were made in anger and that he just wanted to compete with the council chairperson, Mr. Charles Maseruka, who had been rough on him during the interrogation.

He will be arraigned at the Anti-Corruption Court, according to the IGG’s office.
