As the people of Kisoro gear up to elect their woman MP on November 14th, 2024, during the ongoing by-election, several political players have flocked to the place to canvass votes for their favorite candidates.
Once again, the National Unity Platform party leaders led by Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, have done it again.
Known for ferrying supporters wherever he goes, Kyagulanyi and his group have transported thousands of purported followers to Kisoro district in an attempt to portray that he was welcomed by a mammoth crowd in the area.
Kyagulanyi arrived in Kisoro on Monday, November 11th, 2024, amidst the tight company of his hired and ferried supporters who congested the area to canvass for the NUP candidate Sultan Salim. A report of his ferried supporters causing chaos in Kisoro has emerged.
Bobi Wine’s rallies countrywide have been attended by Ugandans as music concerts instead of political rallies and have since failed to translate into votes for Bobi Wine himself or other NUP candidates he canvasses for.
In Kisoro district, where the NRM and President Museveni have been winning 100%, there is nothing that has changed to give any opposition party a win.
The same crowds that attended Bobi Wine’s rallies are the same that will attend President Museveni’s rallies, and without doubt, the NUP candidate won’t be among the best in terms of votes.
In the faces and minds of Ugandans, Bobi Wine has failed to transition from music to politics. Ugandans look at him as a local funny musician with classic entertaining jokes and gymnastics.
It should be noted that NUP has lost all by-elections in districts outside Buganda, but surprisingly, Bobi Wine has been pulling crowds in these districts every time he goes to campaign for NUP candidates.
The problem is that Bobi himself has been deceived by these big turn-ups, and every time he loses, he decries rigging, which is not the case.
During the 2021 elections, Bobi was deceived by the same crowds after traversing the country but losing the presidential bid miserably outside Buganda.
In Kisoro, the big contest will be between NRM’s Rose Kabageni and the independent Grace Akifeza, an NRM leaning.
