Bobi Wine, while addressing NUP members at the party headquarters on August 23, 2023, attacked Mohammed Nsereko for the efforts he made to bring it to the public’s attention that Mohammed Ssegirinya’s medical bills had not been cleared and asked Nsereko to stop using the sickness for personal gains.
“Nsereko is playing cheap politics and breaking the law he enacted by using social media to bring to attention of the public that Ssegirinya’s bills were not paid; he is found of this, like he did with the late Kato Lubwama, and in the end, stole the money collected,” Bobi Wine said.
He noted that paying Ssegirinya’s bills is not his responsibility, as people would like to believe, because he is a member of parliament who should be taken care of by Museveni, speaker of parliament and Leader of Opposition. People should stop asking for support from him whenever they fall sick.
According to Bobi Wine, Ssegirinya should stop behaving like a beggar. By soliciting funds from Ugandans, he knows the available means to follow to get help, but he ignored them and chose to travel without using them.
“Now he is making a live Tik-tok show to collect funds from the public; he even travelled for treatment without our knowledge. My prayer is that God heals him, since he seems to be overwhelmed by sickness and he is not thinking straight. He is a member of parliament, who should have used the available means to get help instead of soliciting money from the public,” Bobi Wine said.
However, Nsereko in his defense says he did not know that his good intentions of standing with his colleagues and brothers whenever they are sick hurt Bobi Wine.
“I do not have any bad intentions like Bobi Wine is claiming; I am human and feel for all my colleagues; I will not mind being prosecuted for trying to help Ssegirinya; I am simply not like him, who waits for a funeral to run with 1 million as Mabugo (condolence); of what use is that? I would rather stand with them in sickness than use one’s funeral for cheap popularity,” said Nsereko.
According to Nsereko, it is public knowledge that Bobi Wine feels more for the dead than the living; his records speak for themselves.
“Bobi Wine made sure the late speaker did not receive treatment in peace, but waited for his death and ran there with a goat and 100k for Mabugo, and he did the same for Lubwama; he never cared for him when he was sick. Now he is calling Ssegirinya a beggar and claiming that God should heal him. Why does he not always allow our brothers to receive treatment in peace? ” asked Nsereko.
According to the deputy speaker of parliament Thomas Tayabwa, SSegirinya is in the Netherlands, receiving treatment for skin cancer. He travelled without clearing with the medical board that clears MPs documents for approval of medical funds from parliament, a thing he says is being worked on to provide him with the necessary help.
