Bobi Wine is deeply concerned after the FBI launched an investigation into Senator Bob Menendez’s associates and has already arrested a member of the Egyptian Mafia.

Menendez has been providing funding to the NUP party and Bobi Wine, with the intention of helping Bobi Wine overthrow the government in Uganda. However, it is alleged that Menendez’s involvement could lead to the establishment of a drug cartel and a significant increase in homosexuality promotion in Uganda.

On September 25, 2023, Menendez was charged by the federal court for accepting bribes to serve the interests of the Egyptian Government. The charges also included his participation in a bribery conspiracy, involving payments in cash, gold bars, and a luxury car.

During a raid on Menendez’s home, the FBI discovered nearly $500,000 in cash and over $100,000 in gold, which they believe were payments for the bribes. As a result, Bobi Wine is living in fear, as the FBI continues to investigate Menendez and his associates. One Egyptian businessman has already been arrested for allegedly bribing Menendez for legislative favors.

“The bribes including cash, gold, and a Mercedes Benz came in exchange for Menendez agreeing to use his power and influence to benefit the Government of Egypt,” federal officials said.

The arrested businessman, Wael Hana, voluntarily traveled to New York and was taken into custody at JFK International Airport. Prosecutors claim that Hana facilitated meetings between Menendez, his wife Nadine Menendez, and Egyptian military and intelligence officials to discuss their tasks.

Hana was released on a $5 million personal recognizance bond, but with strict conditions, including surrendering his passport and wearing a GPS ankle monitor.

The investigation and arrests have caused panic and fear within the NUP party and its leadership. They are concerned about being targeted next and are also facing financial difficulties due to the corruption charges against their major donor. They recently had to collect funds from party members in the diaspora to organize a meeting.

The party spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi, disclosed that their major donor, Menendez, was being investigated by the FBI. Consequently, the party had to sever ties until the situation settles down. Ssenyonyi also revealed that he and other leaders remained in Uganda due to insufficient funding.

Daniel Kawuma, the NUP Diaspora Team Leader, expressed concern over the association between Bobi Wine and Menendez. He stated that Menendez’s bribery allegations could potentially complicate the Democrats’ efforts to maintain their slim majority in the upcoming US Senate elections.

The relationship between Menendez and Bobi Wine strengthened when the Senator called for the release of Bobi Wine, who had been arrested in 2018 on treason charges. Menendez expressed distress over Bobi Wine’s detainment and assured that they were monitoring the situation closely and raising concerns about the arrest.

In response to the charges, Menendez temporarily stepped down as chairman of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee.
