Uganda Airlines has announced the launch of direct flights from Entebbe International Airport to London Gatwick, with operations set to begin on May 18, 2025.
The route, unveiled at a press conference at Sheraton Kampala on 20 March 2025, marks a major milestone for the airline as it expands into the European market.
Uganda Airlines CEO Jennifer Bamuturaki described the launch as a turning point, stating, “This route completes our establishment phase and sets us on a path for long-term growth.”
The airline will operate four weekly flights, enhancing Uganda’s connectivity with the UK.The direct flights are expected to boost trade and investment between Uganda and the UK.
British High Commissioner to Uganda, HE Lisa Chesney, emphasized the economic benefits, noting that “With Uganda’s quota-free access to the UK market since 2023, this direct link will accelerate the export of key products like coffee, bananas, and tea.”
Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, Minister of Transport and Works, officially announced the new route, calling it a “long-awaited milestone” for Uganda’s aviation industry.
The addition of London flights strengthens Entebbe’s position as a regional hub, complementing existing services by KLM, Brussels Airlines, and Turkish Airlines. Uganda Airlines, which currently operates a fleet of seven aircraft, including Airbus A330-800neos, continues to expand its international footprint, serving destinations across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
Passengers on the new route will benefit from competitive baggage allowances, with Economy Class travelers allowed two pieces totaling 30kg and Business Class passengers permitted two pieces totaling 32kg.
Bamuturaki reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to efficiency, stating, “After careful planning and preparations, we are ready to take you to your destination on time.”
The launch of direct flights to London Gatwick is a strategic step in Uganda Airlines’ global expansion, positioning the national carrier for long-term growth and improved international connectivity.
