Barbra Kyagulanyi Joins Husband’s Brothers in Political Arena, Reinforcing Family Rule

Barbra Itungo Kyagulanyi, wife of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), has officially stepped into the political arena to contest for woman member of parliament for Wakiso district, aligning herself with her brothers-in-law, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu and Eddy Yawe Ssentamu and Mukwaya Michael alias Mikie Wine, who are already actively involved in Ugandan politics.

This development signals a potential strengthening and broadening of the Ssentamu family’s political influence within the country.

While Barbra Kyagulanyi has long been a visible and supportive role in her husband’s political career, she is now stepping out and running for the position of woman Member of Parliament for Wakiso district, joining her in-laws in advocating for family rule.

Sources close to the family confirm that Barbra Kyagulanyi will be working closely with Nyanzi and Yawe on her political campaigns as well as pushing for the husband’s presidential bid in the 2026 general elections.

Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, who has previously contested for the Kampala Central parliamentary seat, welcomed his sister-in-law’s decision and promised that her win will pave the way for their wives to join politics later.

“Barbra’s win will definitely open a way for our wives as brothers to join elective politics that is why we are pledging our undivided support to rally behind her alongside Bobi Wine, her husband, and campaign for her as a woman member of parliament in Wakiso district,” says Nyanzi.

Eddy Yawe, a prominent musician and upcoming politician, echoed this sentiment,”We are united as a family, and we want to make sure we fill up those political parties among ourselves; other people can’t be trusted as most of them are moles for the ruling NRM government,” Yawe said.

However, political analysts have greatly criticized this move and blamed the Ssentamu brothers for ring zoning political seats for only family members and even promising to bring on board their wives.

Political commentator Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku has strongly criticized the Ssentamu’s desire to ring zone all political positions around Kampala and ignore the interests of other political aspirants.

“What are with the Ssentamu’s decision to ring-zone all political positions in central for family and friends? What kind of government would they have if they come to power? They’ve constantly accused Museveni of stuffing the administration with family members, but what are they doing in advance of they assume power? That is why I tell people that the NUP is simply a Buganda affair that has evolved into a family,” Mukaaku stated.

According to the Ssentamu brothers, led by Nyanzi, the ones nearer the saucepan take cream milk while those far get the watery one.
