The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) has called upon the government to organize the local council I elections and carry out the planned electoral reforms ahead of the 2026 general elections.

During a press conference convened on March 20th, 2024 by the elders of the ANT party at the party offices in Bukoto, Hon Wandera Ogallo urged the government to organize LCI elections and also go through with other electoral reforms as promised.

“The issue of elections shouldn’t be treated lightly, the LC1 elections should happen. Elections are so central to this country and should take priority from the consolidated Funds,” Wandera said.

Wandera who is a former legislator in the East African legislative assembly also urged Ugandans to put more pressure on the government if they are to see things change in the country.

“From our own constitution, power belongs to the people and there should be no excuses for not having elections and money should be found for them, Let’s put more pressure so that we can have these reforms and have transparent elections,” Wandera added.

The Electoral Commission recently said it requires at least shs 56 billion to hold these elections.

In January 2024, the minister for local government Raphael Magyezi said that the LC1 elections were postponed to a later date due to a lack of finances.
