The territorial police in Amuru district have in custody a 20-year-old male for allegedly raping an 80-year-old woman.

SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, stated at a press conference on September 25, 2023, in Naguru that the suspect, named Sunday Oyet, reportedly raped an 80-year-old female adult on September 20, 2023, in Okojo-Andara village, Labala parish, in Amuru district.

“The suspect pushed the victim’s door, which was supported from inside with a stone. He proceeded and grabbed the victim by the neck, threatened to kill her if she made an alarm, and raped the victim, who sustained serious injuries,” Enanga said.

Enanga stated that the victim narrated her ordeal to the neighbours, who immediately traced the shoe prints of the suspect in the muddy soil and arrested him. His underpants recovered and were found with suspected blood stains that will be used for DNA comparison.

Police strongly condemns such acts of elderly abuse and maintains its zero tolerance for all acts of sexual violence against vulnerable women. And the suspect is going to be charged for rape.
