Patrick Amuriat Oboi, the party president of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), is under fire from party members who accuse him of misappropriating over 30% of the party’s resources under the guise of “mobilization” funds.
According to sources within the FDC, Amuriat has been unable to adequately account for the substantial sums allocated to him, leading to accusations that the funds were not used for their intended purpose.
“Party members have been asking tough questions, ” one FDC insider who preferred to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the matter.
“There’s a lot of discontent about the lack of transparency and accountability regarding these mobilization funds, the Party is collapsing and Amuriat claims to be using the party’s resources for Mobilization, yet the numbers keep decreasing and others joining other parties,” source revealed
Faced with mounting pressure and criticism from within the party, Amuriat Oboi has reportedly announced his intention to run for Member of Parliament.
Critics suggest this move is a calculated attempt to leverage his position within the FDC to secure a parliamentary seat amidst the ongoing scandal.
“It seems he’s trying to use the party structure to shield himself from the accusations, But members are determined to get answers about what happened to the money,” the FDC source added.
The allegations against Amuriat come at a sensitive time for the FDC, as the party prepares for upcoming elections and seeks to maintain its credibility with the Ugandan public.
The accusations of financial impropriety could potentially damage the party’s reputation and undermine its efforts to present itself as a viable alternative to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Amuriat Oboi has yet to publicly address the allegations or respond to requests for comment. The FDC leadership has not yet issued an official statement on the matter. This is a developing story.
