Ahamark Advocates has strongly warned the National Unity Platform (NUP) and newly sworn-in Kawempe North MP Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola over what it calls false claims circulating on social media, alleging the firm is part of the legal team defending Nalukoola’s March 13, 2025, election victory.
According to the law firm, its name was wrongly included among nine legal teams NUP reportedly assembled to defend Nalukoola in a court petition filed by Farida Nambi Kigongo, a former candidate who lost in the by-election.
Speaking to the press on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from his office at Raja Chambers in Kampala, Counsel Alex Luganda, a partner at Ahamark Advocates and head of its Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department, said the firm was never consulted and has no involvement in the case.
“We were shocked to see our firm’s name circulating online and in the media, claiming we are representing counsel Nalukoola. This is false and misleading,” said Luganda.
He added that using a law firm’s name without consent is not only unethical but could amount to defamation and breach of contract under Ugandan law.
“This is a serious issue that damages our reputation. We are considering legal action if NUP and Nalukoola do not immediately stop using our name and issue a public apology,” Luganda warned.
He further demanded that NUP and Nalukoola apologize through media platforms and submit a formal written apology within 72 hours, starting from the time of the press briefing.
The legal petition challenging Nalukoola’s victory was filed by Farida Nambi, after he was declared the winner of the Kawempe North parliamentary by-election with 17,939 votes, defeating her 9,058 votes.
While the political and legal battle continues, Ahamark Advocates made it clear they want no part in the dispute and will not allow their name to be dragged into a case they were never involved in.
