Sahle-Work Zewde, Ethiopia’s first female president and champion for women’s empowerment, in Africa.

Born on February 21, 1950, grew up in the bustling city of Addis Ababa. From an early age, she displayed incredible intellectual prowess and a deep sense of compassion for others.

Her desire for knowledge led her to pursue higher education, where she studied natural science and obtained a degree in biology from the University of Montpellier in France.

Sahle-Work’s journey in public service began in the early 1970s, when she joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She quickly rose through the ranks, serving in various diplomatic positions and representing Ethiopia on the global stage.

Her exceptional diplomatic skills and dedication to her work were recognized, and in 2006, she became the first Ethiopian woman to hold the position of ambassador.

Sahle-Work’s remarkable career took a notable turn in October 2018, when she was appointed as the first female President of Ethiopia.
