Hon. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister for Health, who doubles as the Woman Member of Parliament in Lira City, has appealed to exhibitors to invest in local pharmaceutical manufacturing in Uganda and the rest of Africa.
She made the remarks while presiding over the opening ceremony of the Uganda Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Expo 2024, organised by the Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda on February 22, 2024, at UMA Multipurpose Hall.
“The Ministry of Health, together with the Allied Health Professionals Council Uganda and the Uganda Manufacturers Association, seeks to provide an opportunity to capture East Africa’s untapped potential in Uganda in pharmaceuticals and supplies,” Aceng said.
This is the third international pharmaceutical, medical, and healthcare exhibition, with the previous one organized by Saudi Arabia.
Aceng revealed that the Ministry of Health is amending the National Drug Authority (NDA) law to facilitate the quick registration of Ugandan products while also enabling the NDA to assist local manufacturing processes.
The Uganda Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Expo 2024 offers a huge chance for exhibitors to tap into the unexplored market of the East African Region, according to the Ministry of Health.
The Expo, which has exhibitors from eight countries (including the UAE, the United Kingdom, and India), focuses on manufacturers and suppliers of pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and diagnostics.
