The confirmed Ebola cases in Kampala have risen to 14 after more than nine people tested positive.

The new cases are a result of contacts from a fatal case that originated in Kasanda and died at Mulago Hospital, Uganda’s Ministry of Health said.

Dr Jane Aceng, the Minister of Health, said most of the new cases were family members of the fatal case.

“Yesterday, October 23rd, 2022, nine people were tested for Ebola in the Greater Kampala region, bringing the total number of cases to 14 in the last 48 hours,” said the Minister.

The Minister added that most of the new cases are family members of the fatal case and one health worker who first treated him in a private clinic before being transferred to Mulago Hospital.

“7 family members are from Masanafu and a health worker who managed him in a private clinic together with his wife from Seguku. Fellow Ugandans, let’s be vigilant. Report yourself if you have had contact or know of a person who has had contact. Let’s cooperate to end Ebola, “said the Minister.

Since the outbreak, KCCA has remained on high alert and has since heightened surveillance to curb down the spread through carrying out mass sensitization.

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has also established a toll-free number 0800299000 and WhatsApp numbers 0708970194 and 0776140454 that can be used to report any suspected cases of Ebola or seek information related to Ebola.
