The Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council -UMDPC has confirmed that Muhamood Kabanda was born with only one kidney.
In a report released on Thursday, the Council refuted allegations on the missing kidney by Kabanda following a surgical operation at Old Kampala Hospital.
The council further confirmed that Kabanda was born with only the RIGHT kidney.
The report signed by both Professor Joel Okullo, the Chairman of the Council, and Dr. Katumba Ssentongo, the Registrar, ruled out the claim and established that there was no evidence to prove that Kabanda’s Kidney was harvested.
Kabanda 25, a trader in St. Balikuddembe Market while in the company of Erias Lukwago claimed that his left kidney was harvested without notice after he had been admitted to Old Kampala Hospital following a boda boda accident.
On learning of the incident, the council lined up senior specialists to do the examination that included Radiologists that reviewed all the radiographs, and the General Surgeon, Urologist and Neuro surgeon.
“The specialists examined the site of the size of the incision. Their findings were that indeed there was a scar in the anterior abdominal wall that was far from the anatomical location of the kidney,” the statement of the findings read.
The findings added that there was no evidence of any cut on the main aorta.
They concluded that it was possible for the left kidney to have fused with the right one during formation hence the two renal arteries supplying it.
Associated Prof Joel Okullo and Katumba based on these findings to conclude on the situation around Kabanda.
“Based on the observation of the surgeons and Radiologists, and the examination of the medical records, there was no kidney on the left side to have been harvested,” Professor Okullo and Katumba stated.
