The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) in Abim District has recovered over 16 heads of cattle from Jie cattle rustlers.

According to Capt. Amos Nsamba the UPDF’s 5th Division Spokesperson, the cattle belonging to Odong Nicholas of Wiceere Cell, Oringowelo Ward in Abim Town Council, were raided yesterday 30th June 2022 at around 2:00 pm from his home.

“We received an alert from the locals that some cattle had been raided and were able to recover the stolen animals,” Capt. Nsamba said.

Eye witnesses revealed that, on seeing security, the rustlers ran heading to the Adere hills located between Abim Town Council and Atunga Sub-County but security caught up with them which and retrieved the animals.

“When the UPDF soldiers arrived, the thieves took off but the soldiers pursued them as they were heading to the Adere hills. The soldiers caught them and brought back Mr. Odong’s animals,” a witness said.

However, the rustlers managed to get away and disappear into the hills as the soldiers rescued the cattle.

Capt. Nsamba has stated that UPDF is intensifying its operations in Adere hills and will not rest until the rustlers are captured.
