President Museveni equates heroism of hacked 9 NRM cadres to Uganda martyrs

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has equated the heroism and valour of the nine supporters of the National Resistance Movement supporters murdered during the regime of late Bazilio Okello to that of the Uganda martyrs.

The cadres were brutally hacked to death by troops of Bazilio Okello at Kikandwa in Wakiso district, to that of the Uganda Martyrs.

President Museveni on Thursday named the nine murdered cadres as ; Edidian Lutamaguzi, Nkangirwa Matayo, Sentogo Sebastian, Gitta, Kibuuka, Kirumira Edrisa, Sebowa  and Kibirige.

“Despite the threat of death, they declined to reveal the hideout of the NRA guerrilla unit under the command of Jack Muchunguzi,” President Museveni said.

According to President Museveni, it was in honor of the memory and legacy of these patriots; and many others, that we declared the 9th of June, a Heroes’ Day.

He further congratulated Ugandans upon the 41st heroes’ day and called for continued sacrifice to service the country.

“Countrymen, Countrywomen and the Bazukulu. Greetings. I congratulate you all for reaching the 41st Heroes’ Day Celebrations. I thank you all and wish you happy Heroes’ Day Celebrations, “President said.

Late Gen. Tito Okello Lutwa and his military junta toppled Dr. Apollo Milton Obote from power in a military coup on July 27, 1985, but he was overthrown by the NRA/NRM on January 26, 1986.
