Recent events have shown that everyone who joins the national resistance movement not only gains ideological prowess but also gains stature.

Many former opposition members who have left opposition parties have found growth and stability in the NRM.

Recently former FDC member Rt Hon Anita Anet Among was voted Speaker of parliament on the NRM ticket. Hon Among had twice contested for Bukedea Woman Member of Parliament in 2006 and 2011 on FDC ticket, losing on both occasions to Hon Rose Akol Okullu of NRM.

Rt Hon Among is deputized by Thomas Tayebwa, also a former FDC member who lost a member of parliament seat running on the FDC ticket. When he contested on the NRM ticket in 2015, he won unopposed.

There are numerous members of the opposition who have crossed to the NRM and risen to power including; and Ms. Beti Kamya, who rose to the position of the Inspector General of Government after joining the NRM.

Hon. Christopher Kibanzanga, the former State Minister for Agriculture, defense and former Busongora South MP saw stature growth in 2016 when he joined NRM and was given a ministerial post.

Ms. Betty Amongi Akena, commonly known as Betty Amongi is now the Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development.

Other defections include the former vice president Mr. Gilbert Bukenya, who defected from the Democratic Party and later became a vice president of the Republic of Uganda.

NRM has proven itself as a progressive party that promotes growth both ideologically and in stature not only for a few but for the whole of Uganda.
