Government has announced a move to vaccinate over four million people against Covid-19 as the Bars, Concerts and other performing arts resume operations after two years of shutdown.

Two weeks ago, President Yoweri Museveni announced that the entertainment sector shall be reopened by January 24th, shortly after learners have gone back to school.

The drive is slated to start this week according to the Ministry of Health spokesperson, Emmanuel Ainebyoona.

Ainebyoona says the exercise had previously been called off by the Ministry to concentrate on the countrywide polio vaccination.

He adds that the Ministry is now set to resume the accelerated vaccination campaign to ramp up uptake of vaccines.

“Covid-19 vaccination campaigns are to resume in the regions of Karamoja, Bugisu, Bukedi, Busoga and Buganda. The mass accelerated Covid-19 vaccination activities in the above regions are expected to resume from January 29 to February 5. Preparation activities start next week,” Ainebyoona said.

A similar exercise was first conducted in Eastern and Northern Uganda respectively.

The drive seeks to mobilize Ugandans aged 18 and above to embrace vaccination, as well as dispelling myths surrounding the vaccines.

As of last week, a total of 12.4 million doses of the vaccine had been administered.

“There has been slow data capture to reflect these people in the system as fully vaccinated. But people are embracing getting vaccinated. We encourage all those who are due for their second jab to get vaccinated,” Ainebyoona said.
