INDEPENDENT POLITICIANS: SELF SEEKING OPPORTUNISTS NOT LEADERS

For every nation to transform economically and politically in the positive direction, there is a need for morally up right leaders.

The famous Luganda slogan   that reads “Tuli Mu struggle” rings a bell in all aspects of life. As we look forward to achieving any goals, it is a struggle with an expectation of some sort of victory. However, we should not lose the focus by bowing so low for packages that look appealing and yet what is wrapped is rot. If you know you know!

The NRA liberated Uganda because they were unified in the struggle. Self-seekers are now intending to struggle to bring the legacy set to ruins.

There were so many lessons learnt from NRM Primary Elections, with some of the prominent circus being in Ssebambule, and Ntungamo. That was what it was.

As the general elections come close the NRM strongholds have tried to reconcile all former competitors in the primary elections.  Some have refused and insist on running independent like in the case of Kanungu,

All members in different Political parties stand for some kind of ideology, values and goals. the question is what do the independents stand for if they cannot have their agendas incorporated into the parties.  It is simple, they are not team players. They do not have the spirit of the helping the electorate but are blinded by the desire to be the leaders.  That’s the reason we are seeing so many “NRM independents” refusing to reconcile with their counter parts to furnish stable service delivery to their communities.

We have seen scenes of political prostitutes over time. people running from FDC, DP to NUP and vice versa. An indication of opportunism and politicians. These have had their share of criticisms from different analysts but we seem to be blind to the independents who have failed in Primaries of different parties. They are the most dangerous politicians the electorates should watch out. In my opinion, they are illusive, unpredictable and their royalty is in balance.

Having in mind that Uganda is in a multi-party setting and legislation in parliament is about the strong and most efficient lobbyist to be able to get a cake share for their electorate, the independents who go through elections will have no choice other than disguise to lean to some party or not. They will neither be red, blue, green or yellow. At this level I look at them as a headless chicken.

Service delivery is all we want to have as electorates. Government is composed of stakeholders to service delivery who are directly affiliated to a political party. In this case the ruling government is NRM which is checked by a shadow cabinet.

All in all, as voters we need to be cautious of people who run away from parties due disgruntlement and all sorts of excuses.  Besides when go to the maths they are the very people who commercialize politics and end up spending all their first five years in parliament to recover the money they spent on electorates instead of focusing on development.
