The Kira Municipality member of Parliament Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda who has been in parliament for 3 consecutive terms is seeking for a 4th term to again represent the people of Kira municipality.
Semujju has been in parliament since 2011 on the Forum for Democratic change (FDC) ticket and has been pre-occupied with talking ill about president Museveni and the first family.
The motor-mouthed legislator who has always castigated Museveni for overstaying in power has no signs of leaving the Kira municipality seat for anybody else.
Lately he has been unsettled by National Unity Platform’s decision to front Lawyer George Musisi against him. Semujju’s reluctance to relinquish power is a clear confirmation that Opposition leaders in Uganda do not actually practice what they preach, they oppose for selfish personal reasons while acting worse than those they oppose.
Semujju has been presenting himself as an advocate of rule of law, accusing president Museveni of not grooming a future successor for the peaceful transition of power. What has stopped Semujju from grooming a successor for the last 15 years and why can’t he give a chance to the youth in his constituency to also go to parliament?
It is interesting how opposition leaders in Uganda play their politics, they give no reason for Ugandans to vote out the current regime. In fact, they act worse than those they oppose. They are too selfish and greedy, involved in corruption scandals, ever fighting themselves over financial issues and do not want to leave their seats for other able leaders to thrive.
Semujju Nganda is an example of selfish politicians who preach water and drink wine. He represents the larger opposition who say and do things just for political expediency and think all Ugandans are gullible and will believe their lies. The political struggles between Semujju Nganda and NUP in Kira municipality will be tougher given that the constituency is in NUP’s stronghold.
As we approach election period, Ugandans should question these opposition politicians who want to cling on power while they preach against the same when talking about their opponents.
The selective application of laws and morals is not a good leadership gesture and it is high time these opposition politicians practiced what they preach because Ugandans are not gullible as they think.
Other opposition politicians who have stayed in power include Lord mayor Erias Lukwago,Abdu Katuntu,Nandala Mafabi,Medard Segona,Mathias Mpuuga and many others. They preach against clinging to power but they never want to leave. Time will tell.
