The UPDF Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has credited the normalcy of activities in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo to Operation Shujaa.

Gen. Muhoozi was celebrating the success of the operation during a meeting with his counterpart, Gen. Christian Tshiwewe Songesha, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FADRC), at the UPDF headquarters in Mbuya on November 2, 2024.

During the meeting, the two discussed the outcome of Operation Shujaa and the future of the Joint Security Forces.

“Farms and gardens, economic activities have resumed thanks to the achievements of Operation Shujaa. What we have achieved follows the effectiveness of our collaboration, “Gen. Muhoozi said.

He added, “The recent meeting between our two presidents, President Felix Tshisekedi and President Yoweri Museveni, further solidifies this coalition.”

Gen. Muhoozi emphasized the need to continue prioritizing the partnership, focusing on eliminating barriers and striving to consolidate peace and security.

Gen. Tshiwewe reaffirmed his counterpart’s request and pledged FARDC’s support in continuing to keep peace in the region and the Uganda-DRC border.

This meeting follows one held between President Yoweri Museveni and President Félix Tshisekedi of the DRC on October 30, 2024, aimed at addressing ongoing security challenges in the region, particularly concerning the activities of armed groups like the M23 and ADF rebels.

From September 30 to October 2, 2024, UPDF and FADRC held a significant meeting to review and strategize for their joint military operation, Operation Shujaa, aimed at combating the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels.

These discussed strategies to combat challenges posed by militant groups operating in the region, and these were delivered to their respective Chiefs of Defence Forces, who then met today to deliberate on them.
