The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has warned the public against the unauthorized sale and importation of sports merchandise featuring FUFA branding.

This was confirmed in a statement released on Thursday, October 10, 2024, by FUFA, the governing body of local football in Uganda.

FUFA has expressed concern over reports of the unauthorized importation, manufacture, distribution, and sale of counterfeit sports materials, attire, and apparel bearing its trademarks.

“FUFA has not authorized any individual, group, or company to sell FUFA sports merchandise on its behalf,” reads part of the statement.

The body has warned that purchasing counterfeit Uganda Cranes merchandise is illegal and cautioned the public against participating in such actions.

FUFA noted that anyone found importing, producing, distributing, manufacturing, selling, displaying, wearing, or helping to market any counterfeit merchandise bearing the Uganda Cranes brand without FUFA’s approval will be held accountable.

According to Moses Hassim Magogo, the FUFA president, the jersey has been created and protected and it is intellectual property and has been copyrighted.

We wish to inform you that we have moved on from Umbro and now have the Ugandan brand Janzi. It is a subsidiary company of FUFA in charge of sports manufacturing which is copyrighted,” Magogo said.

Magogo says that genuine Cranes jerseys are available exclusively at its merchandise shop in Mengo.

This comes just a day before the Uganda Cranes face South Sudan in an AFCON qualifying match at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
