The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has urged the 2024 candidates to avoid examination malpractices ahead of the national examinations at all levels, including the primary living examinations (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).

According to Sharon Oyat Arach, the UPC spokesperson, teachers and parents have done their best to prepare their students for the examination period, stating that students should trust their capability to excellently perform.

“As a party, we believe schools and teachers have prepared their students and pupils well to successfully sit this examination. We would also like to encourage both students and pupils to study hard and make a reflection to understand fully what they have been told throughout the years. UPC also calls upon students and pupils to resist any form of examination malpractice,” Oyat said.

While addressing the press members on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at UPC headquarters at Uganda House in Kampala, Oyat said that the exhibition of discipline during the examinations will help in promoting the credibility of different schools and the education sector at large.

She also encouraged students to report anyone attempting to sell them leaked examination papers.

“You know, when they release timetables, several people contact parents and schools saying that they have the actual examination paper. And because of this, many of the schools have lost credibility. So as you see, we are saying, as institutions as schools as parents, let us desist from such letters and believe in our children,” she added.

“We should have faith in our children that they are smart enough to pass these examinations; as UPC, we wish all the candidates success in their forthcoming exams,” she added.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Executive Director, Dan Odongo, also warned all stakeholders who intend to involve themselves in examination malpractice to desist from that act, saying that the repercussions will be tough.
