The Minister of Science, Innovation, and Technology, Monica Musenero Masanza, has confirmed that the government will officially launch the Kiira motor vehicle plant in Jinja on October 7th, 2024.

While conducting a media tour on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, Minister Musenero revealed that the works on the vehicle manufacturing plant are already at Jinja and are 95 percent complete and set to be commissioned by His Excellency, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

According to Musenero, once commissioned, the plant will produce 11 buses daily and 2,500 in a year.

The Minister notes that in five years, the plant targets to produce 22 buses in a day, 200 in a month, and 5,000 yearly.

She also noted that the Kiira Motor Vehicle Plant, once in operation, is expected to provide employment opportunities to Ugandans both directly and indirectly.

Statistics from the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) indicate that a total of 5,188 motor vehicles are imported on a monthly basis, which implies that cars manufactured locally will have a huge ready market.
