During the training of stakeholders in Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) events taking place at the Africana Hotel, Kampala, by the Uganda Convention Bureau (UCB), it was revealed that Uganda ranks 7th in Africa for MICE events hosting, with South Africa ranking 1st.

The one-week training kicked off on September 30, 2024, to October 6, 2024, with different stakeholders like hotel owners, professional events managers, tourism and travel company owners, and destination marketing company owners to be trained on what and how to handle different international events.

Zelda Coetzee, a lead trainer and consultant for the Uganda Project, after Uganda successfully hosted two international events, NAM and G77, highly boasted Uganda’s capability to host international MICE events with more bookings coming up.

“Currently, Uganda is ranked 7th in Africa in hosting MICE events in Africa, with South Africa holding the 1st position. During this training, we shall make sure we tip you the stakeholders with knowledge on how to successfully host international events. We shall make sure Uganda ranks among the top 5 in Africa after this training,” she revealed.

The Uganda Convention Bureau (UCB) is a unit under the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) whose main purpose is to market and promote Uganda as a destination for more MICE events. They also collaborate with private sector stakeholders to make sure MICE events are held successfully.
