On September 18, 2024, during the Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) event, Buvuma District Education Officer Hussein Bugembe expressed gratitude to the government for its efforts in enhancing education.

He highlighted the construction of a new seed school in Buvuma, which is significantly transforming the lives of young people in the district.

R-Isa Mbooge, the Buvuma District Chief Administrative Officer, ISO Deputy Director General Col. Emmy Katabazi and other district officials on Wednesday.

The head teacher of Nairambi Seed School, Ms. Faridah Namusisi, reported an enrollment of over 870 students.

Although existing schools remain overcrowded, she noted that many students no longer have to travel long distances to access education, leading to a substantial reduction in dropout rates.

Bugembe commended the district’s academic performance, pointing out that five schools were recognized for their outstanding achievements in the 2022 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) and Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) in February 2023.

The top performers included Nairambi Seed SS, St. Francis Bubanzi, Namunyolo PS, Buwanzi PS, and Bulondo PS.

He emphasized that this success is a significant milestone that the district should cherish.

Bugembe encouraged students to actively participate in their academic and social environments.

He reminded them that involvement in initiatives like UNSA is crucial for their collective future, stating, “You are on the right path.”

He urged students to collaborate with their peers and educational institutions to maximize their potential.

According to him, all the students who sat A’level at Buvuma College in 2023 qualified for admission to the university.

He added that all nine students sent to university on the district quarter system were from Buvuma College.

Bugembe also expressed appreciation for the leadership of UNSA for their dedication and commitment to guiding students to become patriotic citizens.

He specifically thanked Isaac Kiziito, the Kampala UNSA Coordinator, for his contributions and commitment to student welfare.

The Chief Administrative Officer emphasized and appreciated the leadership approach of the security agencies that focuses on improvement rather than fault-finding, highlighting its importance in fostering a positive educational environment.

He reassured students that the Ugandan government is committed to providing education from primary through university levels and encouraged them to pursue higher education while considering their unique circumstances.

Col. Emmy Katabazi, the Chief Guest at the meeting, challenged district leaders and school administrators to creatively address overcrowding in dormitories as the government continues to enhance educational infrastructure.

Buvuma District, made up of 52 islands, is already sending students to universities and vocational schools, paving the way for transformative opportunities for both students and their families.
