The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Force, UPDF and the Bangladesh Armed Forces have agreed to enhance mutual military collaboration.

This was resolved during a special meeting held between the UPDF Chief of Joint Staff Policy and Strategy Maj Gen Bob Ogiki and the delegation from the National Defence College of the Bangladesh Armed Forces War College led by Captain B. M. Hassan Mahmud.

The meeting took place on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) headquarters in Mbuya.

Maj Gen Ogiki, during the meeting, emphasized the historical ties between Uganda and Bangladesh, which have fostered a spirit of cooperation and understanding.

He said the collaboration will focus on knowledge exchange and best practices in military operations.

“These visits are a testament to our strong relationship and show the importance of learning from one another’s experiences,” said Maj. Gen. Ogiki.

He recognized Bangladesh’s significant advancements since its independence, achieved nine years before Uganda.

He praised the progress Uganda has made over the past 36 years, despite a history of stagnation, and encouraged the Bangladeshi delegation to engage with Ugandans to gain insight into the nation’s aspirations; there is a clear vision that most Ugandans share,” Maj Gen Ogiki added.

“This is our first engagement outside of UN peacekeeping missions, and we appreciate Uganda for being a pivotal destination for our learning journey,” Capt. Mahmud said.

The visit of the National Defence College Bangladesh Armed Forces to Uganda signifies a pivotal step in enhancing military collaboration between the two nations.
