Kenneth Kiprop and Charity Cherop on Tuesday night won bronze medals in the 5000m races at the World Athletics U-20 championships in Lima, Peru.
In a highly competitive race, Kiprop finished third with a time of 13:41.73, Kenya’s Andrew Kiptoo Alamisii took first place with a time of 13:41.14, and Ethiopia’s Abdisa Fayisa took second place with a time of 13:41.56.
In the women’s 5000m, Charity Cherop also took home a bronze in a time that was a personal best of 15:25.02, and Eisa Medina of Ethiopia (14:39.71) and her countrymate Mekedes Alemeshete took first place and second place, respectively.
The World Athletics U-20 Championships are scheduled for August 27th to 30th, 2024, in Lima, Peru.
The championship has attracted over 1,700 athletes and 130 teams from around the globe.
