The Forum for Democratic Change Party President, Eng. Patrick Amuriat Oboi, has apologized for fronting Erias Lukwago as the Kampala Lord Mayor on the FDC ticket.

Amuriat announced the apology while addressing the media on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the party headquarters in Kampala.

“On behalf of FDC, we want to apologize to the people of Kampala for having fronted Lukwago as the candidate for the Kampala Lord Mayor. His only experience now is presiding over potholes and shading tears in Kiteezi to show that he is concerned about the people when he did nothing to prevent the disaster that he saw coming, ”Amuriat said.

Amuriat also dared Lukwago to step on Najjanankumbi if he thinks he is the FDC Party President.

“I dare Lukwago to come here to Najjanankumbi tomorrow if he thinks he is the FDC party president. A person who has failed to run a city wants to run a national political party,” Amuriat added.

Amuriat accused Lukwago and the Katonga group of holding a semblance of a national delegates conference at Katonga Road and insisted that no matter what the resolutions made at the assumed delegates conference, they all remain null and void since the Katonga faction is not recognized as a registered political party and their actions have no bearing on the affairs of the original FDC party at Najjanankumbi.

He noted that FDC is recognized by the Electoral Commission and even appointed Hon. Yusuf Nsibambi to be party chief whip, replacing Ssemujju Nganda.

Amuriat further emphasized how the FDC continues to receive funds from the government through the Electoral Commission and has filed annual returns to the party regulator and not the FDC of Lukwago and Katonga.

The FDC woes started earlier in 2023 after the Katonga faction, comprising FDC founding member Dr. Kizza Besigye, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, former FDC chairman Wasswa Birigwa, FDC former spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda, and other FDC members, accused the leadership at Najjanankumbi led by Engineer Patrick Amuriat Oboi, Nandala Mafabi, and others of working for President Museveni.

They were also accused of receiving a huge sum of money meant to disorganize the part claims that Amuriat and the team at Najjanankumbi deny.
