The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has embarked on a five-day post-enumeration survey (PES) data collection exercise.

The exercise that started on Tuesday, August 21st, up until August 26, 2024, is an independent survey aimed at validating the quality of census results in terms of coverage and content.

Dr. Chris Mukiza, the UBOS Executive Director, urged the public to cooperate with the field staff who will be visiting every household in the sampled villages as they collect the required information.

“This survey is not as comprehensive as the census because we are doing a one percent sample. We are going into 1,000 enumeration areas instead of 110,000, and we have cut down on the questionnaire. The exercise will take only five days, and by the end of August 26, 2024, we shall have finished it,” said Mukiza.

Dr. Mukiza said the exercise is in line with the international practice of conducting a national population census.

He adds that its results are compared with the census results to measure the accuracy of the census by independently surveying a sample of the population.

The survey estimates the proportion of people and housing units that were potentially missed or counted erroneously in the census.
