The police in Kasese district have tightened security ahead of the third edition of the Rwenzori Theluji Festival, slated for this Saturday, August 24, 2024, starting with a marathon.

On Tuesday, August 20th, while addressing the media about the event, Nelson Tumusiime, the Rwenzori East regional police spokesperson, assured residents of total security and called for extreme community vigilance.

He said the police are working closely with other stakeholders to guarantee the safety of both participants and spectators.

“Our preparation is in high gear, and we are at 60%. The general public and the residents of Kasese should not panic because these are athletes. In case they see these people running around, there should be no cause for alarm,” Tumusiime said.

The Rwenzori Theluji Festival, which translates to “snow” in Swahili, aims to showcase the unique biodiversity in and around Kasese under the theme, “Our Culture, Our Heritage, Our Diversity, Live It, Love It.”

Organized by the Kasese Tourism Investors Forum (KTIF), in collaboration with the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu, the four-day event will feature a wide range of activities, including traditional dances, live music performances, local art exhibitions, and culinary experiences.

The festival will also feature a tree-planting campaign titled “My Tree, My Theluji,” which aims to plant six million trees across the Rwenzori region over five years, with over 600,000 trees already planted in the previous two editions.
