The National Unity Platform Party leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, is in trouble for always sidelining a section of legislators and other party leaders from foreign trips.

His latest trouble stemmed from the unfair selection of 20 delegates to attend the NUP Diaspora Convention 2024, scheduled for August 8–12, 2024, in Chicago, USA.

In a heated NUP leaders’ meeting held at Makerere Kavule, the party headquarters, on August 5, 2024, Kyagulanyi was tasked by the Kalungu West MP, Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu, to explain the criteria he used to select the 20-man team to accompany him on the trip.

MP Kalungu accused Bobi Wine of only favoring his family members.

“You know I won’t fear to ask this; could you please explain to some of us who have never been selected for such conventions the criteria you used to choose the team you are moving with? These are the same faces that the party sponsors every time there is a trip abroad, and I think that’s not fair, “MP Ssewungu said.

MP Ssewungu also wants the number of delegates to travel with Bobi Wine reduced, saying it’s a huge expenditure for the party.

“From the information shared with us, there is a team of over 20 people who are traveling with Kyagulanyi, and the party is funding this travel with all its associated costs. We are the same people complaining of government extravagance; don’t you think we are not so different from them if we continue with this trend?” Ssewungu asked.

Among the people going to the convention are NUP Party President Robert Kyagulanyi, Deputy President Lina Zedriga, Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, the leader of opposition Joel Ssenyonyi, the head of security Eddie Mutwe, the party deputy spokesperson Waiswa Mufumbiro, and the other 15 chosen members of parliament.

The 20-man team that is meant to travel for over a week in Chicago, USA, will be facilitated with air tickets, meals, accommodation, and daily allowances for the time spent out of the country.
