Uganda’s opposition parties and their leaders have for the last many years duped the minority change-seeking Ugandans by giving them false hopes and playing to the gallery. They have severally set timelines within which to remove the ruling party, and sometimes some unsuspecting Ugandans have succumbed to their lies and supported them.
The same opposition leaders have in the past years tried to present themselves as angels while they tarnish the image of the ruling party and its leaders. They tried to show how they are against corruption and persistently pretended to be fighting for the interests of the common Ugandan.
The advent of social media and technological advancement has, however, proved them wrong with time, and the little trust they had won from the few Ugandans is now gone. The once few trusted leaders have turned out to be more selfish and corrupt compared to their counterparts in the ruling party. It is disheartening that the opposition leaders have no principles and values but rather ride on personal interests and mediocrity.
In fact, most of these leaders have no message to deliver to Ugandans, which is why they have consistently made it a personal fight between the person of President Museveni. The slogan ‘Museveni Must Go’ leaves many Ugandans wondering if these leaders actually have any alternative agenda if Museveni left. Making the opposition struggle look like a personal war has left many unanswered questions on the minds of Ugandans.
The fact is that if President Museveni left today, these opposition leaders would not add anything to the development of Uganda; they are preoccupied with removing a person over personal vendetta rather than causing fundamental change. World over, political leaders build their political parties on ideology so that the parties can live longer than their founders. However, it is only in Uganda where opposition leaders have briefcase opposition parties founded to serve the interests of those leaders and their families.
Opposition parties in Uganda are formed for business purposes, which is why all their leaders have enriched themselves and lived lavish lives when the people they say they represent are actually languishing in abject poverty. On top of forming these parties to attract foreign funding, these party leaders carry out local fundraisers to solicit funds from the same poor people they pretend to fight for, something that has impoverished these people more.
It is important that the eyes of their supporters have been opened, and more is needed from every right-thinking Ugandan to sensitize those who are still stuck with these opposition people. They are using the common man as a conduit for personal interests but have nothing to offer in terms of ideas to make a better Uganda.
It may be true that some things may not be going right with the ruling party, but development is a process.
These opposition leaders promising heaven and earth should be ignored with the contempt they deserve by all Ugandans; no country has ever been built on lies. Ideology is still better than selfish interests in building better countries for development.
