President Yoweri Museveni has said the flopped “march to parliament” protest is foreign-backed and funded to undermine Uganda’s sovereignty.
In a detailed dossier released via his official X-account on Thursday, July 25, 2024, President Museveni and the Commander in Chief, CiC, applauded all security agencies and Ugandans for not participating in the flopped demonstrations.
“I want to congratulate the Armed Forces, the Security Forces, and the Wanainchi (residents) for foiling or not participating in the bad demonstration that was planned for Tuesday, “the President wrote.
The President also noted that the demonstration had bad elements and warned the young people involved to abstain from saying that they promote neo-colonialism.
“Funding was from foreign sources that are always meddling in the internal affairs of Africa. All those involved should know that Uganda is not a neo-colony where those shallow schemes can be deployed,” said the president.
According to him, the authors and participants of the demonstrations were planning very bad things against the people of Uganda and threatened that those involved would be dealt with to get all the plans of the foreigners.
“Those very bad things will come out in court when those arrested are being tried. It is possible that some of the participants did not know about the planned foreign funding and the planned bad things. That is why they should have listened to the police advice not to go on with the demonstration. Otherwise, if it was a patriotic, anti-corruption, peaceful demonstration coordinated with the police, I would have been the first to join,” the message read.
