Local leaders in Nakaseke district have appealed to the government to restore police presence in villages, as the removal of village police posts has led to a surge in insecurity and theft cases.

These remarks were made by the local leaders during a village security meeting in Kikamulo Sub County in Nakaseke district.

According to Ssalongo Erias Kibuuka of Kamuli, Daniel Bukenya of Lusoozi, and Stephen Lubega of Lumpewe, there is a lot of insecurity in their villages, most especially theft of animals, burglaries, and robberies, which has prompted the locals to risk their lives and resort to sleeping outside in order to protect their animals.

“There is a local whose cattle was stolen, yet they were locked in a store that had padlocks that made sounds when touched. However, once we investigated and found out that they were local youth who dig holes underground to get to the animals,’’ the local leaders narrated.

They further called upon the government to rethink their decision and bring back police and police posts in villages because the insecurity problems they have in their villages can only be solved by the police because the situation is now beyond their control.

“We need police and police posts back in our villages because the insecurity situation in Nakaseke district is beyond our control, and our lives too are in danger whenever we apprehend the culprits,” the three local leaders revealed.

Kikamulo Sub County has 6 parishes and 43 villages.

The leaders stated that with the increased insecurity, the locals’ livelihoods and government projects are affected since most of these animals were obtained through government projects like the Parish Development Model (PDM).
