The opposition Democratic Party has pledged to work closely with the newly appointed Uganda Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Kituuma Rusoke, as long as he maintains the ethics and integrity of the force.

This was announced by Ismail Kiirya, the acting Democratic Party Spokesperson and President of the Uganda Young Democrats, on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, during a weekly press briefing held at the City House in Kampala.

Kiirya congratulated SP Kituuma and asked him to perform better than his predecessors.

“We know Kituuma has served in different capacities as a DPC and RPC, and with his experience, we expect him to be a better spokesperson, and as DP, we are ready to work with him in his new position,” Kiirya said.

Kiirya also said that the same office has been occupied by many officers, including Emiliano Kayima and SCP Fred Enanga, but in many cases, the public would be shocked by what is reported, especially police brutality.

“We have had cases of police brutality where the facts have not come out well, but we ask the incoming spokesperson to remain steadfast,” Kiirya added.

ACP Kituuma Rusoke was appointed the police spokesperson in the recent police reshuffle by IGP Abbas Byakagaba, which saw his predecessor (SCP) Fred Enanga transferred to Interpol as the new deputy director.

While speaking to the media after his appointment, Rusoke promised to work closely with the fourth estate.
