The people of Kyalulagala Kawuwa in Kyotera district woke up to shocking news of the mysterious death of a 45-year-old woman found in her own home after days of disappearance. The deceased, identified as Harriet Namugumya, was discovered lifeless in her house on June 13, 2024.

According to locals, Namugumya had been missing for five days, prompting a community search across bushes and hospitals in the area. With no trace of her whereabouts, the villagers sought approval from their local leader to break into her residence. When permission was denied, a group of determined locals took matters into their own hands on June 13, leading to the grim discovery of Namugumya’s body.

“When our search in the nearby hospitals, bushes, and mortuaries was not fruitful, on June 13, 2024, we decided to break into Namugumya’s house so as to find out if she was inside, but to our dismay, we found her dead on her bed, and her corpse was lying in blood,’’ one of the locals revealed.

Faced with the horrible scene of the woman lying motionless on her bed, surrounded by blood, the villagers swiftly alerted the authorities.

Francis Mukasa, a local of Kyalulagala village, revealed in an interview on June 13, 2023, that when they found the deceased’s body in the house, they went to the police and informed them about their discovery.

“I think Namugumya might have died due to a cardiac arrest attack as she was sleeping because we found her lying in bed with no scratches on her body or scuffle around her,” Mukasa said, pointing out the unusual sight of blood trickling from her nose.

The local police in Kyotera district have initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Namugumya’s untimely demise. The authorities have revealed plans to conduct a post-mortem examination to shed light on the cause of death.
